● Among modern-style regional festivals hosted by Korean local governments, the Chunhyang Festival is the oldest and will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2031. Additionally, 2033 will mark the centennial of the opening of Byeonsan Beach.
● A century signifies the culmination of three generations and serves as a pivotal threshold at which lived memory becomes institutionalized history. A centennial milestone represents a critical juncture for reflecting on the past century and articulating a vision for the century ahead. Notably, century-old sites and festivals operate not only as strategic branding assets that elevate regional prestige but also as anchor attractions that draw tourists. Accordingly, a comprehensive policy framework is needed to integrate fragmented historical resources, strengthen regional identity, and repurpose aging facilities as centennial heritage hubs.
● The coming decade (2026–2035) marks a critical period, as numerous modern infrastructure facilities and educational and cultural heritage assets from the mid–Japanese colonial period (1926–1935) approach their centennial milestones.
● The Jeonbuk 100-Year Heritage Connection Project is designed to transform a century of history “from private to shared and from memory to capital.” We set the vision of positioning centennial heritage as Jeonbuk’s strategic reservoir—a strong public asset and catalyst for sustainable growth. Furthermore, we outline targeted initiatives based on three strategic pillars: memory assetization, value regeneration, and regional revitalization.
